Referring Agencies - Youth Employment

Referrals to our youth employment program

Smart, Skilled and Hired Youth Employment is an NSW Government initiative designed to get young people started in work. Navitas English delivers this free* program to 15 to 24-year-olds in the Western Sydney region, creating job-readiness through tailored personal assistance.

Young people might suffer obstacles such as lifestyle issues, lack of transport, incomplete education, childcare needs, disability and mental health. The Smart, Skilled and Hired Youth Employment program team works with them to remove these barriers to job success with training, work experience and connections to community services.

Is your client eligible?

Access to the free Smart, Skilled and Hired Youth Employment program is available for young people who:

  • are aged between 15 and 24 at time of registration
  • have turned 17 years of age, or completed Year 10, whichever comes first
  • are Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, New Zealand citizens or humanitarian visa holders (including those in refugee and humanitarian visa categories)
  • are not registered with a Commonwealth employment service program.

The benefits for participants

The primary goal of Smart, Skilled and Hired is sustainable employment. We aim to establish trusted connections with young people looking for help, and engage them in a program that meets their needs and gives them hope.

We begin with an informal conversation in a setting where the participant feels comfortable, such as a local café. If the client prefers, we can also meet at one of our Navitas English colleges throughout Western Sydney. Our professional team members then work with people to assess skills and interests, and set job goals. Navitas English also has well-established community networks with employers, trainers, health and support services in Western Sydney, giving participants the benefit of our professional networks.

Next, an individual plan is developed for each participant, including some, or all, of the following:

  • overcoming employment obstacles
  • connecting participants with other community services
  • identifying training gaps
  • finding local work experience
  • delivering job-readiness skills training
  • linking to local job opportunities
  • supporting participants after they find employment.
